In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion. Cook until the beef is fully cooked and the onions are soft and translucent, about 8–10 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.

Grease a 9-inch pie plate lightly with butter or cooking spray.

Spoon the beef mixture evenly into the pie plate. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, milk, and eggs until well combined and smooth.

Pour the Bisquick batter evenly over the beef and cheese layers.
