01 -
Preheat the oven as directed on the Texas toast packaging. Arrange Texas toast slices on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes. Turn each slice over and bake an additional 3-5 minutes until golden and crisp. If using plain bread, spread both sides evenly with butter and toast on a pan or in the oven until golden brown.
02 -
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, stirring frequently, until thoroughly browned; drain excess fat. Add chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
03 -
Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper. Stir to combine and simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the mixture to thicken while stirring occasionally.
04 -
Spoon a generous portion of beef filling over each slice of Texas toast. Top each with shredded cheddar cheese. Return to the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
05 -
Serve immediately while warm, open-faced, with your choice of side such as fries, salad, or pickles.
