Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and beat until fully combined.

Gently stir in the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until the mixture forms a smooth dough with no visible dry spots.

Fold the chocolate chips and caramel bits into the dough, distributing evenly.

Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 5 cm (2 inches) apart.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. While the cookies are still warm, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of each one.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes. Transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling, during which time they will set.
