Classic Meatball Sub (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 3 hoagie rolls.
02 - 12-15 Italian meatballs.
03 - 1-1.5 cups marinara sauce.
04 - 3 tablespoons fresh grated Parmesan cheese.
05 - 1-1.5 cups thick shredded Mozzarella cheese.
06 - 2 teaspoons dried oregano.
07 - 1/2 pound ground beef (85%/15%).
08 - 1/2 pound ground pork.
09 - 1 egg.
10 - 1 slice whole wheat bread, milk-soaked and squeezed.
11 - 1/4 cup minced yellow onion.
12 - 1/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese.
13 - 2 garlic cloves, pressed.
14 - 1 tablespoon fresh minced basil.
15 - 1/2 tablespoon fresh minced parsley.
16 - 1/2-1 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
17 - 1/8-1/4 teaspoon black pepper.

# Instructions:

01 - Mix ground beef, pork, egg, onion, Parmesan, garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add squeezed bread pieces and mix thoroughly.
02 - Heat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
03 - Using greased hands and a cookie scoop, form 1-inch meatballs. Place on baking sheet close but not touching.
04 - Bake meatballs for 20-22 minutes until cooked through.
05 - Split hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting through. Place in baking dish.
06 - Spread marinara sauce and Parmesan on bottom of rolls. Add 4-5 meatballs per sub, top with more sauce and Mozzarella.
07 - Sprinkle with oregano and bake at 350°F for 15-17 minutes until cheese melts. Add 5 minutes if using cold ingredients.

# Notes:

01 - Best made with fresh deli hoagies for ideal texture and structure.
02 - Can be made as party food by cutting each sub into smaller portions.
03 - Recipe can be doubled to make 6 full subs.
