08 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

10 - Black pepper, to taste

→ For Baking & Topping

11 - 1 tablespoon olive oil or unsalted butter
12 - 150 g shredded cheese (such as Swiss, provolone, or mozzarella)

# Instructions:

01 - Set oven temperature to 175°C and allow to preheat.
02 - In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter on medium heat. Add ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is browned and onions are softened. Drain off excess fat.
03 - In a large mixing bowl, combine the beef and onion mixture with uncooked white rice, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce if using, salt, and pepper. Mix until thoroughly combined.
04 - Transfer the mixture into a greased 33 x 23 cm baking dish. Cover tightly with foil.
05 - Place dish in preheated oven and bake covered for 40 minutes.
06 - Remove foil, distribute shredded cheese evenly over the top, and return to oven. Continue baking uncovered for 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
07 - Allow casserole to rest for 5 minutes out of the oven for the rice to absorb any remaining liquid before serving.

# Notes:

01 - For deeper onion flavour, stir in extra sautéed or caramelized onions before baking.
02 - If using brown rice, increase the cooking time by 15–20 minutes and add additional broth as needed.
03 - Top with French fried onions in the final few minutes of baking to add extra crunch and flavour.
