Heat oven to 350°F.

Cook cranberries, sugar, water over medium heat 15 minutes until thick.

Set filling aside to cool.

Sift flour and salt together.

Beat butter until smooth. Add sugar and vanilla, beat until creamy.

Mix in flour just until clumpy (not solid dough).

Press 2/3 of dough in greased 8x8 pan. Prick with fork.

Bake 17-18 minutes until light brown.

Spread cranberry filling, leaving small border.

Crumble remaining dough on top, press lightly.

Bake 25-30 minutes until golden.

Cut into 16 squares while warm. Cool completely in pan.
