Classic Shepherd's Pie (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat Filling

01 - 1 pound lean ground beef or lamb
02 - 2 tablespoons butter
03 - 1 medium onion, chopped
04 - 2 tablespoons tomato paste
05 - 2 tablespoons flour
06 - 1 cup beef broth
07 - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
08 - 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables

→ Potato Topping

09 - 2.5 pounds Russet potatoes
10 - 1/2 cup heavy cream
11 - 1/4 cup butter
12 - 3 cloves garlic

→ Seasonings

13 - 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
14 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
15 - Pepper to taste

# Instructions:

01 - Boil potatoes. Preheat oven to 375°F with rack in top third.
02 - Cook onion and beef, add seasonings and tomato paste. Add broth and vegetables.
03 - Mash cooked potatoes with warmed cream, butter, and garlic.
04 - Layer meat mixture in 9x13 dish, top with mashed potatoes. Create texture with fork.
05 - Bake 30 minutes, broil briefly to brown. Rest before serving.
