Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main

01 - 2 slices of white, sourdough, or whole wheat bread
02 - 2 slices of American, cheddar, or other melting cheese
03 - 15–30 grams unsalted butter, softened

→ Optional Add-ins

04 - Tomato slices
05 - Sliced cooked bacon
06 - Sliced ham
07 - Mustard or pesto

# Instructions:

01 - Evenly spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread, ensuring full coverage to achieve a crisp, golden crust.
02 - Layer cheese slices between the unbuttered sides of the bread. Include any desired add-ins such as tomato, bacon, or ham. Position the buttered sides outward.
03 - Warm a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat until evenly hot.
04 - Place the prepared sandwich in the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side until the bread is golden and crisp. Flip gently, then continue grilling for another 2 to 3 minutes until the opposite side is golden and the cheese has fully melted.
05 - Remove from heat, rest briefly, then slice the sandwich in half. Serve immediately, ideally accompanied by hot tomato soup.

# Notes:

01 - Room-temperature butter spreads more evenly, preventing torn bread and promoting even browning.
