01 -
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking apart with a spatula, until thoroughly browned. Carefully drain excess fat from the pan.
02 -
Add finely chopped onion to the beef in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion is soft and translucent.
03 -
Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Combine well and let the mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
04 -
Spread butter evenly on one side of each bread slice. Toast in a skillet over medium heat or under a broiler for 2–3 minutes per side until bread is golden brown and crisp. Adjust time as needed to prevent burning.
05 -
Distribute generous spoonfuls of the hot Sloppy Joe mixture onto toasted bread slices.
06 -
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese blend) evenly over the top of the meat. Melt cheese either by covering the skillet and cooking on low for 2–3 minutes, or placing under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
07 -
Garnish each toast with chopped parsley or green onions. Slice to serve immediately while hot for best flavor and texture.
