02 - 1 small onion, finely chopped
03 - 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
04 - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
05 - 1 teaspoon powdered mustard
06 - Salt and black pepper, to taste
07 - 180 g cheddar cheese, shredded

→ Batter

08 - 360 ml whole milk
09 - 3 large eggs
10 - 120 g all-purpose flour
11 - 1 teaspoon baking powder
12 - 0.5 teaspoon paprika
13 - 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme

→ Toppings and Garnishes

14 - 130 g sliced pickles (optional, for serving)
15 - Chopped lettuce (optional, for serving)
16 - Diced tomato (optional, for serving)
17 - Additional pickles for garnish (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 190°C. Grease a 23 cm pie dish and set aside.
02 - In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and crumbly. Drain excess fat, then add minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 2–3 minutes before removing from heat.
03 - In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, flour, baking powder, paprika, and dried thyme until smooth. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
04 - Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle 120 g of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef. Pour the batter evenly across the top.
05 - Bake for 35–40 minutes or until the top is golden and a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes.
06 - Top with sliced pickles, chopped lettuce, and diced tomato as desired before serving.

# Notes:

01 - For a stronger 'burger' flavour, incorporate diced cooked bacon or sautéed mushrooms into the beef mixture.
02 - To add heat, mix in chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce with the beef.
03 - For a reduced-carb version, omit the batter and simply bake the beef and cheese mixture in the greased dish.
04 - Serve with ketchup and extra mustard if desired.
05 - Ideal for family suppers or as an easy make-ahead meal for gatherings.
